Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor neuro stepdown patients using NIHSS and other clinical tools to ensure rapid recognition of change
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care including medication administration, neurological checks, and telemetry monitoring
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC so the whole care team stays informed
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to create and execute patient-centered plans
- Respond to emergencies and activate ACLS protocols as needed
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatments, and discharge planning with clarity and empathy
- Maintain professional credentials and complete required documentation (skills checklist, certification cards, Nursys verification)
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure with Nursys license verification required
- NIHSS competency — NIHSS must be included in CV packet to be considered
- Neuro stepdown experience required (minimum 2 years in specialty preferred)
- EPIC proficiency — please note EPIC on your profile
- ACLS certification required
- Strong med/surg experience considered if combined with NIHSS, ACLS and some stepdown exposure
- Complete candidate profile with resume/work history (no gaps >60 days), skills checklist, references, certification card, and badge-appropriate photo
Education
- Active RN license required
- Nursys license verification required
Knowledge & Skills
- NIH Stroke Scale assessment and interpretation
- Neurological assessment and neuro stepdown care
- EPIC electronic charting and documentation
- ACLS protocols and emergency response
- Telemetry monitoring and recognition of cardiac/neurologic changes
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and prioritization
- Clear communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary staff
- Patient and family education with compassionate bedside manner
