Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; includes day and night rotations, every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday coverage. Schedule may require floating to ED holds and occasional charge shifts.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care on the ED/MedSurg swing unit, caring for a broad range of patient diagnoses
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and cardiac strips, responding quickly to changes in patient condition
• Administer and titrate IV drips safely and per protocol
• Document assessments, interventions and patient responses clearly and promptly in EPIC
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and safe transfers
• Serve as charge or float to ED holds as needed, supporting unit flow and staffing
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments and discharge plans to promote recovery and prevent readmission

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (state licensure or compact as applicable)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg nursing experience required; 2 years of nursing experience preferred (per job posting)
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and RN interpretation of strips
• Comfort and competence with IV drip titration
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Ability to float to the ED and assume charge nurse responsibilities when scheduled
• Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator basics and RT equipment (NEBS, O2) is a plus

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN not required (ADN/diploma candidates encouraged to apply)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac strip interpretation
• IV drip titration and pump management
• Emergency Department and MedSurg nursing workflows
• Proficient EPIC documentation and electronic charting
• Patient assessment, triage and escalation of care
• Basic respiratory support knowledge (CPAP/BiPAP, O2 delivery, ventilator transport familiarity)
• Leadership skills for charge/float duties and effective team communication
