Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-operative cardiac and CVICU care for open heart patients with vigilance and compassion
• Continuously monitor hemodynamics and interpret invasive lines, telemetry, and lab results to guide timely interventions
• Manage ventilators, titrate vasoactive medications, and coordinate complex medication regimens
• Perform thorough assessments and document patient status, progress, and changes accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, multidisciplinary team members, and families to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Lead safe patient handoffs and participate in specialty competency testing to maintain high standards of care
• Educate patients and families about post-operative expectations, recovery milestones, and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (state licensure required prior to start)
• Experience in CVICU or equivalent critical care with Open Heart/post-operative cardiac care required
• BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS certification required
• Completion of facility-required competencies such as Trinity Skills Checklist and specialty-specific testing
• Ability to pass required occupational health clearances: fit test, TB screening (2-step PPD or IGRA), drug screen, color vision, and required immunizations
• Willingness to comply with facility onboarding and license/certificate verification processes

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care nursing judgment and post-operative cardiac assessment skills
• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive drips, and advanced cardiac life support
• Experience managing ventilators and respiratory support in the ICU setting
• Skilled in ECG/telemetry interpretation and rapid recognition of arrhythmias
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with patients and families
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
