Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert post-operative cardiac and CVICU care for open heart patients with vigilance and compassion
- Continuously monitor hemodynamics and interpret invasive lines, telemetry, and lab results to guide timely interventions
- Manage ventilators, titrate vasoactive medications, and coordinate complex medication regimens
- Perform thorough assessments and document patient status, progress, and changes accurately in the medical record
- Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, multidisciplinary team members, and families to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Lead safe patient handoffs and participate in specialty competency testing to maintain high standards of care
- Educate patients and families about post-operative expectations, recovery milestones, and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license (state licensure required prior to start)
- Experience in CVICU or equivalent critical care with Open Heart/post-operative cardiac care required
- BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS certification required
- Completion of facility-required competencies such as Trinity Skills Checklist and specialty-specific testing
- Ability to pass required occupational health clearances: fit test, TB screening (2-step PPD or IGRA), drug screen, color vision, and required immunizations
- Willingness to comply with facility onboarding and license/certificate verification processes
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care nursing judgment and post-operative cardiac assessment skills
- Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive drips, and advanced cardiac life support
- Experience managing ventilators and respiratory support in the ICU setting
- Skilled in ECG/telemetry interpretation and rapid recognition of arrhythmias
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with patients and families
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
