Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-operative care for open heart surgery patients in the CVICU, ensuring comfort and safety
• Continuously monitor hemodynamics and cardiac status, interpret data, and act decisively
• Manage ventilators, vasoactive drips, and advanced cardiac support devices with precision
• Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Educate patients and families about recovery, procedures, and discharge planning with compassion
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and participate in Trinity specialty competency testing
• Advocate for patient safety and quality improvement initiatives within the unit

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (per facility/state requirements)
• CVICU experience with open heart surgery required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (current)
• Successful completion of Trinity Skills Checklist and specialty competency testing as required
• Ability to pass facility health requirements: fit test, 2-step PPD or IGRA, Trinity 10 panel drug screen, color vision, and required immunizations
• Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and team communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in cardiac post-operative care and critical care monitoring
• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Experience managing vasoactive medications and infusion pumps
• Ventilator management and respiratory support skills
• EKG rhythm recognition and cardiac emergency response
• Comfort working in a fast-paced ICU environment and collaborating across teams
