Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert post-operative care for open heart surgery patients in the CVICU, ensuring comfort and safety
- Continuously monitor hemodynamics and cardiac status, interpret data, and act decisively
- Manage ventilators, vasoactive drips, and advanced cardiac support devices with precision
- Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients and families about recovery, procedures, and discharge planning with compassion
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and participate in Trinity specialty competency testing
- Advocate for patient safety and quality improvement initiatives within the unit
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license (per facility/state requirements)
- CVICU experience with open heart surgery required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (current)
- Successful completion of Trinity Skills Checklist and specialty competency testing as required
- Ability to pass facility health requirements: fit test, 2-step PPD or IGRA, Trinity 10 panel drug screen, color vision, and required immunizations
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and team communication skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in cardiac post-operative care and critical care monitoring
- Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
- Experience managing vasoactive medications and infusion pumps
- Ventilator management and respiratory support skills
- EKG rhythm recognition and cardiac emergency response
- Comfort working in a fast-paced ICU environment and collaborating across teams
