Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert pre-op and post-op care in Phase I and Phase II recovery units, ensuring safe handoffs and timely discharges
• Monitor cardiac status and dysrhythmias using bedside monitoring and 12-lead ECG interpretation
• Administer medications, blood products and titrate IV therapies safely and per protocol
• Perform airway assessments and assist with intubation, ventilator care, chest tube management and ETCO2 monitoring
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and collaborate with the team to optimize respiratory and hemodynamic status
• Manage PCA pumps, procedural sedation monitoring, and appropriate use of reversal agents
• Provide thorough pre-op assessments, patient education, medication reconciliation and discharge instructions
• Document care accurately in Epic and communicate lab values, changes in condition and care plans to the interdisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of California (must be eligible to practice)
• Minimum 1 year of PACU or perioperative nursing experience required; ICU or ED experience preferred
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred
• Demonstrated competency with cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, phlebotomy and blood product administration
• Experience with Epic or other electronic charting systems is required
• Comfort with float assignments to Pre-Op, Phase I and Phase II and ability to cover occasional on-call/night shifts

• Medication administration including procedural sedation and vasopressors
• Pain assessment and PCA pump management
• RASS scoring and agitation/sedation assessment
