Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care for adults and adolescents in a 12-bed surgical/trauma/medical ICU environment
• Lead bedside patient care during your shift, managing ventilators, vasoactive drips and complex lines
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned — coordinate staffing, patient flow and unit communication
• Perform thorough assessments and interpret ABGs, dysrhythmias and hemodynamic data to guide treatment
• Administer and monitor continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips safely
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, PT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response) to optimize outcomes
• Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid response, code and other acute interventions
• Document accurately in Meditech and maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in California (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience; previous charge experience is required
• Certifications required: ACLS and BLS; NIH/NIHSS certification required or strongly preferred
• Comfortable with 1:2 patient ratios and caring for ventilated, vasoactive and multi-system failure patients
• Experience in specialized ICUs preferred: Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Shock ICU or Neuro ICU
• Ability to float to nearby sites (may be required to float to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance)
• Meditech charting experience preferred

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
• Arterial line, central line and PICC management
• CRRT experience and management of acute/chronic renal failure
• BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
• Procedural sedation and continuous IV sedation monitoring
• Blood product administration and IV therapy/IV starts
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions and surgical wound/Vac care
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and emergency response
• Target temperature management (hypothermia protocol) and stroke/CVA care
