Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and treat patient responses to cardiac-related health conditions using sound clinical judgment
- Provide specialized post-op cardiac care for open heart and interventional cardiology patients (18–24 hours post-op)
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret EKGs and manage telemetry for acutely ill cardiology patients
- Support and participate in electrophysiology studies and device management (pacemakers, bi-ventricular devices)
- Manage ventilators and advanced hemodynamic support when required, including familiarity with balloon pumps and CRRT
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based care and participate in clinical trials
- Maintain strict professional attendance and punctuality in line with facility policy to ensure patient safety and continuity
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (verification via LARA and Nursys required)
- 1+ year ICU experience (floating experience does not count toward the 1 year requirement)
- EKG experience — required
- ACLS and BLS certifications — required and active at time of submission
- Completed skills checklist within one year for RN specialties (document required)
- Willingness to float to similar units (CVICU, Neuro, Trauma) — required
- Preferred: experience in CVICU, neuro or trauma, ventilator management, CRRT and balloon pump experience
- Professional communication, teamwork, and ability to function in a high-acuity cardiac unit
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry and EKG interpretation skills
- Post-operative cardiac care and familiarity with TAVR, PTCA, stents and MitraClip patients
- Experience with Cerner EMR
- Ventilator management and critical care monitoring
- Electrophysiology knowledge and device/pacemaker familiarity
- Comfort working in research/clinical trials environments
- Ability to adapt and float to similar critical care units
