Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
• Provide comprehensive post-operative care including wound, drain, and ostomy management
• Manage tracheostomy care and chest tube monitoring with vigilance
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including PCA pumps and heparin drips
• Coordinate dialysis-related needs when patients require renal support
• Document care accurately and promptly in Meditech to ensure continuity and compliance
• Conduct bedside shift reports and safety checks every 1–2 hours to prioritize patient safety
• Collaborate with nursing leadership and core staff to support patient throughput and outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license (State of practice) required
• Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg nursing experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; NIHSS certification required
• Experience with Meditech documentation system
• Comfortable with Alaris/Alaris IV pump and PCA pump management
• Demonstrated competence in wound, tracheostomy, ostomy, chest tube, and drain care
• Ability to float to other units as needed and work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week period
• COVID-19 vaccination required per facility policy

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment skills and clinical judgment on a busy 25-bed Med-Surg unit
• Familiarity with infection prevention (CVC/Foley monitoring) and fall prevention protocols
• Proficient medication administration and 100% medication scanning practices
• Skilled in using Welch Allyn VS carts, Hoyer lifts, Broda chairs, and Alaris IV pumps
• Excellent communication for bedside reporting and patient-centered care
• Ability to manage patient ratios commonly 1:4 to 1:5 while maintaining quality care
