Roles & Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise daily operations of the Payroll Department to ensure smooth, accurate delivery
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for Hospital staff, Medical Group employees, and District Commissioners
- Manage, mentor, and develop payroll staff to build a high-performing team
- Participate actively in payroll processing and reporting, producing reliable, auditable results
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state laws and union/public-sector rules
- Provide responsive customer support for internal and external payroll inquiries with professionalism
- Prioritize workload, implement process improvements, and safeguard payroll confidentiality
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting, or substantial experience leading a payroll department in lieu of degree
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamentals of Payroll Certification expected
- Experience with public, unionized payroll environments
- Previous healthcare payroll experience preferred
- Proven experience supervising or managing staff
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks
- Commitment to strict confidentiality
- Must be onsite in Aberdeen, WA (this position is not remote)
Education
- Bachelor's in Business Administration or Accounting (or equivalent substantial experience leading a payroll department)
Knowledge & Skills
- Payroll processing and payroll management best practices
- Payroll reporting and payroll compliance (federal and state)
- Unionized / public sector payroll rules and processes
- Healthcare payroll nuances and requirements
- Team supervision, coaching, and performance management
- Customer support, prioritization, and clear verbal/written communication
- Handling confidential payroll data with integrity
