Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) and Separation Health Assessments with care and professionalism
• Conduct thorough interview-based clinical assessments and focused physical exams (range of motion, muscle strength testing)
• Document exam findings clearly and compose timely reports, addendums, and medical opinions
• Review relevant diagnostics to inform non-treatment medical examinations
• Adhere to non-treatment exam protocols (no prescribing or treatment)
• Complete required training and participate in credentialing/onboarding processes

Qualifications

• Active Nurse Practitioner licensure (ability to obtain/maintain licensure in the state of practice — South Dakota preferred)
• Clinical experience in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
• Experience with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams or veterans’ healthcare is strongly preferred
• Comfort performing interview-based assessments and focused physical exams (ROM and muscle strength testing)
• Access to a private office within 50 miles of the listed city if applying for the provider-owned-office option
• Willingness to complete required trainings and follow VES onboarding procedures

Education

• Master’s degree (MSN) or DNP preferred for Nurse Practitioners; NP certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in interview-based clinical assessment and non-treatment medical examinations
• Proficient in focused physical exam techniques (range of motion testing, muscle strength testing)
• Strong documentation and medical report writing, including addendums and medical opinions
• Familiarity with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam processes and Separation Health Assessments
• Ability to read diagnostics and integrate findings into evaluations
• Veterans healthcare familiarity is a plus
