Roles & Responsibilities
- Maintain and execute the Radiation Oncology Quality Assurance and Safety program to protect patients and staff
- Perform daily, monthly, and annual QA on linear accelerators, CT simulators, and treatment planning systems
- Commission and maintain stereotactic and HyperArc machine models and related QA equipment
- Consult with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists to ensure accurate and effective treatment plans
- Oversee dosimetrist plan reviews and provide dosimetry support when a dosimetrist is absent
- Manage and maintain treatment planning systems, MU calculation systems, and QA software including upgrades
- Participate in weekly chart rounds and maintain thorough records of patient consults and QA activities
- Serve as a point of contact for radiation safety during regulatory surveys and implement corrective actions
Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Medical Physics or closely related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Board certification or eligibility (e.g., ABR) preferred; strong clinical physics background required
- Experience with linear accelerators, CT simulators, treatment planning systems, and stereotactic techniques
- Proven experience in QA program management, equipment commissioning, and radiation safety
- Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and provide mentoring/oversight to dosimetry staff
- Strong communication skills and availability for emergency consultation when necessary
Education
- MS or PhD in Medical Physics or related field preferred (or equivalent clinical experience)
Knowledge & Skills
- Treatment planning and plan review expertise (IMRT, SRS, SBRT, HyperArc)
- Dosimetry and monitor unit calculations
- Radiation therapy quality assurance and preventative maintenance
- Equipment commissioning and CT simulator knowledge
- Experience with QA and treatment planning software and software upgrades
- Familiarity with regulatory/accreditation standards and RTOG protocol participation
- Troubleshooting skills and ability to respond to equipment downtime
