Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations for adults in a correctional setting
- Deliver individual and group therapy focused on trauma, behavioral health, and rehabilitation
- Develop and document treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries with clarity and purpose
- Collaborate with custody staff, healthcare teams, and administrative partners to coordinate patient care
- Participate in care-planning meetings, crisis interventions, and multidisciplinary rounds when needed
- Support orientation and mentorship activities during the initial three-week onboarding period
- Maintain strict confidentiality, professional boundaries, and compliance with facility policies and state regulations
Qualifications
- Licensed Psychologist OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) OR Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California
- Active, unrestricted license to practice in California (or ability to obtain one prior to start)
- Experience providing mental health therapy and assessments in adult populations; correctional or institutional experience is a strong plus
- Current CPR/First Aid as required by facility and ability to pass any required background/clearance checks
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with treatment planning and progress note standards
Education
- Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) for Psychologist OR Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health field for LCSW/LMFT/LPCC
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinical assessment and diagnosis across a range of adult behavioral health presentations
- Evidence-based therapy modalities (CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, etc.)
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional environment with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication; clear, timely documentation
- Crisis management skills and sound clinical judgment under pressure
- Cultural competence and trauma-informed care approach
