Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess patient functional mobility and rehabilitation needs with evidence-based clinical reasoning
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve function
- Deliver hands-on manual therapy and therapeutic exercise interventions with clear goals and measurable outcomes
- Document clinical progress accurately and timely in the patient record and communicate updates to the care team
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and facility staff to coordinate safe, effective patient care in the correctional setting
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, fall prevention, and safe mobility strategies
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment and follow facility security and compliance protocols
Qualifications
- Active Physical Therapist license in California (required)
- Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program (DPT preferred)
- BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start
- Comfort working within a correctional facility and able to pass required background checks/clearances
- Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills; prior experience in inpatient, outpatient, or correctional settings preferred
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered approach
Education
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred
- Master's or Bachelor's in Physical Therapy or related field accepted with appropriate licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise prescription, manual therapy, gait training, and mobility aids
- Solid clinical reasoning and outcome-driven treatment planning
- Proficient in concise, accurate clinical documentation
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and follow facility safety protocols
- Adaptability and calm under pressure in a secure environment
