Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, ensuring safety and comfort
• Manage and monitor ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment with attention to detail
• Perform respiratory assessments and interpret ABGs to guide effective interventions
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans
• Deliver patient and family education on respiratory therapies and home care needs
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with facility policies
• Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and support code situations as needed
• Inspect, clean, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment to maintain readiness

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist credential (CRT or RRT) - required by employer
• Valid state license to practice Respiratory Therapy in Louisiana (or ability to obtain)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Clinical experience in acute care or critical care settings preferred
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered mindset
• Ability to work 12+ hour clinical shifts and respond to varying unit needs

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required
• Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care or related degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in ventilator management and troubleshooting
• Skilled in arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation
• Knowledge of airway management, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medications
• Familiarity with infection control practices and clinical documentation systems
• Ability to prioritize tasks in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
• Teamwork and collaboration with nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals
