Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver skilled respiratory care to patients across the unit, making a direct impact on recovery
• Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment with vigilance and best practices
• Perform arterial blood gas sampling and interpret results to guide clinical decisions
• Assess patient respiratory status and implement appropriate interventions promptly
• Educate patients and families on breathing treatments, disease management, and home care
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the care team to design and adjust care plans
• Respond to emergency situations and code calls with composure and clinical expertise
• Document treatments, observations, and clinical changes accurately in the medical record

Qualifications

• Active Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license (required)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Comfortable with mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation techniques
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a team-first attitude
• Previous acute care or hospital respiratory experience preferred

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy (required); Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation management and troubleshooting
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation
• Airway management, suctioning, and secretion clearance techniques
• Infection control and patient safety practices
• Electronic medical record documentation and charting
• Critical thinking and rapid assessment in urgent scenarios
• Effective interdisciplinary communication
