Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough triage and clinical assessments for patients of all ages presenting to urgent care
• Provide telephone triage and evidence-based self-care guidance when appropriate
• Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push and infusion) safely and accurately
• Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue IV therapy, including secondary IV therapies as ordered
• Document assessments, interventions, patient education, and outcomes clearly and timely in the EMR
• Coordinate patient referrals and track outcomes, serving as a key liaison with case managers and outside facilities
• Maintain a clean, safe clinic environment and ensure adequate supplies and equipment functionality
• Participate in department improvement efforts, training, and development of the clinical team
• Respond to emergent situations and support departmental coverage as needed
• Serve as a vaccine coordinator or backup vaccine coordinator when assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to sit for the NCLEX
• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
• Clinical competency and High Risk competency to be completed within required timeframes (clinical competency within 3 months; high risk competency within 3 months and annually thereafter)
• Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move up to 50 lbs, and perform physical aspects of patient care
• Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm in urgent/emergent situations

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take NCLEX)
• High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing process and critical thinking for rapid assessment and prioritization
• Triage and urgent care patient assessment
• Medication administration and IV access/therapy skills
• Accurate documentation and EMR proficiency (training provided as needed)
• Infection control and safety best practices
• Referral coordination and case management basics
• Customer service principles and professional patient interactions
• Time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving under pressure
