Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for long-term care residents using the nursing process
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings in the EHR, and develop and revise individualized care plans
- Accurately administer medications and therapeutics, following physician orders and infection control protocols
- Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and support staff during your shift; ensure safe delegation and unit operations
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and make independent clinical judgments during shift
- Participate in patient and family education, care conferences, and interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize resident outcomes
- Document resident progress, transcribe physician orders, and maintain confidentiality of resident information
- Support unit goals, attend departmental meetings, complete competencies, and contribute to quality improvement
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing - BSN, ADN, or nursing diploma accepted
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical competency and High Risk competency required within 3 months of hire (recertification per policy)
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in long-term care or related settings
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and meet physical demands of the role
- Strong communication, leadership, delegation, and documentation skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment, nursing process, and care planning
- Medication administration and pharmacology awareness
- EHR documentation and Nursing Admission Database experience
- Infection control practices and safe therapeutic interventions
- Emergency response and AED operation
- Delegation, supervision, and charge nurse leadership
- Patient and family education and interdisciplinary communication
- Geriatric care principles and recognizing psychosocial needs
