Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise and pharmacological echocardiography) with accuracy and timeliness
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment including echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to deliver high-quality diagnostic data
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and accurate charging of studies
• Apply infection control practices and aseptic technique to ensure patient and equipment safety
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, with particular attention to neonatal and pediatric patients
• Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff and other hospital team members
• Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, offering clinical guidance as required

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of a certification program in echocardiography or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, especially pediatric and neonatal studies
• Comfort working across day and night schedules and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic (2D) echocardiography, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
• Transesophageal echocardiography and exercise/pharmacological stress echo
• EKG acquisition and interpretation basics, Holter monitoring and analysis, cardiac stress testing
• Proficiency with echocardiographs, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors and computer analysis tools
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling and charge capture
• Infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Age-specific patient care, including neonatal and pediatric protocols
• Preceptorship and clinical teaching skills
