Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and ensure they understand procedures and safety steps
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans following established protocols and quality standards
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment such as gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safe handling of radiopharmaceuticals and radioactive materials
- Apply radiation safety protocols and required PPE to protect patients and staff
- Communicate findings and collaborate with radiologists and physicians to support accurate diagnostics
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff development and patient education
- Provide compassionate care for patients of all ages, responding appropriately to developmental and clinical needs
Qualifications
- Current Hawai'i license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot imaging and calibration equipment
Education
- Current Hawai'i Nuclear Medicine Technologist license
- Current BLS/HCP certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient preparation for nuclear medicine studies and safe radiopharmaceutical administration
- Diagnostic nuclear medicine imaging and quality control
- Operation and troubleshooting of gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Radiation safety protocols and proper use of PPE
- Strong communication and collaboration with radiologists and clinicians
- Ability to provide care across the lifespan and adapt to a rural hospital setting
