Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide total nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting and supervise assigned support staff
- Make independent, timely clinical decisions during shifts and escalate to supervisors when additional input is needed
- Develop, implement, and maintain patient care plans and nursing documentation accurately and promptly in the EMR
- Ensure infection control and safety standards are followed and maintain adequate supplies and equipment levels
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and communicate effectively with families and providers
- Assist with training and mentoring department personnel and contribute to policy and procedure development
- Evaluate emergencies, initiate appropriate interventions, and complete required incident reporting
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have active Alaska license; direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current) – maintain per policy
- TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency (required within specified timeframes after hire)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- No prior experience required; acute care, emergency department, or long-term care experience preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong assessment skills and clinical decision-making in emergency and acute care
- Knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations
- Ability to supervise and delegate to CNA/Tech staff effectively
- Competence with documentation and electronic medical records (EMR)
- Excellent communication, tact, and ability to work with diverse patients and families
- Ability to handle physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs
