Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) program across SEARHC
- Perform surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and report to NHSN and other regulatory agencies
- Design, write, update, and implement IPC policies and procedures aligned with CDC, CMS, OSHA, FDA, TJC, and APIC guidelines
- Provide expert education and training to staff, patients, families, and communities on infection prevention best practices
- Chair the IPC committee and collaborate with public health and regional/state partners to keep practices current
- Oversee Employee Health program activities and supervise assigned staff
- Collect, trend, and prepare infection control data and statistical reports; support data-driven performance improvement efforts
- Travel to multiple sites to assess, educate, and train staff, ensuring consistent IPC standards system-wide
Qualifications
- Active, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field required (nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar)
- Master's degree (MPH or MSN) preferred
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required or strongly preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support) current within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter
- Minimum 3 years of acute care and/or infection control, data collection, performance improvement, or risk management experience
- Clinical and manager competency assessments to be completed within required timeframes
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (required)
- Master's degree in a healthcare-related field (MPH/MSN) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent (baseline requirement noted in posting)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious diseases
- Experience with HAI surveillance, NHSN reporting, and public health reporting requirements
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, trending, and basic statistics
- Skilled in policy development, implementation, and translating regulatory requirements into practice
- Proficient with MS Office and database applications
- Ability to design and deliver effective training and education across diverse audiences
- Project management and performance improvement methodology experience
- Excellent communication skills with cultural and health-literacy awareness
