Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography with accuracy and clinical confidence
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKGs, Holter preparation, monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing to provide timely, high-quality diagnostic data
• Operate and optimize echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors and associated analysis software to support physician decision-making
• Accurately schedule, process and charge studies in hospital information systems, ensuring documentation and billing integrity
• Implement infection control and aseptic techniques, maintain equipment disinfection and adhere to departmental safety standards
• Provide clinical preceptorship and instruction to students from contracted colleges and universities, fostering the next generation of cardiac sonographers
• Deliver age-specific patient care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations, with compassion and professionalism

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal studies
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate or equivalent education
• Ability to work evenings and variable schedules as assigned

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Echocardiography certification program completion (required)
• Cardiovascular Sonography certificate (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic echocardiography (2D), M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
• Experience with transesophageal and stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic)
• Skilled in EKG/ECG acquisition, Holter monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Comfortable operating echocardiograph machines, cardiac stress systems and Holter analysis software
• Working knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic technique
• Experience providing clinical instruction and precepting students
• Ability to perform age-specific testing, including neonatal and pediatric echocardiography
