Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down/SDU setting
• Perform thorough assessments and continuous monitoring of patients transitioning from higher acuity levels
• Administer medications and treatments accurately, following policies and safety standards
• Collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and families to coordinate effective care plans
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate when necessary
• Document patient care and clinical observations clearly in the medical record
• Support safe patient transitions and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility for licensure
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or as required by facility
• Prior experience in step-down/SDU, telemetry, or progressive care preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage moderately complex patients
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit staffing needs

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Advanced cardiac monitoring and post-ICU care knowledge
• IV therapy, medication administration, and infusion management
• Electronic health record (EHR) documentation proficiency
• Clinical judgment, critical thinking, and rapid assessment skills
• Patient and family education with a compassionate bedside manner
