Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, patient-centered care in the Step-Down Unit, monitoring and responding to changes in condition
• Perform thorough assessments, develop concise care plans, and document care clearly in the medical record
• Manage cardiac monitoring and complex medication administration with accuracy
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge needs to promote recovery
• Respond quickly and effectively to patient deterioration and participate in rapid response efforts
• Advocate for patient safety and quality improvement initiatives on the unit

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in Louisiana required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
• Experience in step-down, progressive care, telemetry, or critical care preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, IV and medication administration skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven skills in cardiac/telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Medication management and safe IV/infusion practices
• Excellent clinical assessment and prioritization abilities
• Strong documentation skills in electronic health records
• Effective communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary care teams
• Patient and family education to support transitions of care
