Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit (SDU) for higher-acuity patients
• Continuously monitor and assess patients’ clinical status and promptly escalate changes
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and collaborate on complex care plans
• Coordinate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform clear, timely documentation and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Respond effectively in emergencies and participate in critical care interventions
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license (LA or applicable compact/reciprocal licensure)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred
• Experience or clinical comfort caring for higher-acuity/step-down patients
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced clinical environments

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in patient monitoring and assessment for step-down level care
• Familiarity with telemetry, wound care, and IV medication administration
• Accurate clinical documentation and effective clinical handoff practices
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond calmly under pressure
• Teamwork-minded with strong patient/family communication skills
