Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate psychiatric nursing care to adults and/or adolescents based on unit needs
• Assess patient mental status, monitor behaviors, and document observations clearly and promptly
• Administer medications safely and follow up on therapeutic responses
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to support care planning and safe discharges
• De-escalate crisis situations using best-practice techniques and maintain a calm, therapeutic presence
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans, coping strategies, and available community resources
• Maintain accurate, timely charting and adhere to unit policies and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

• Current, active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; psychiatric advanced certs a plus
• Prior experience in psychiatric/behavioral health nursing preferred but open to strong acute-care RN candidates
• Comfort with therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and safety-focused nursing
• Ability to work independently on per diem assignments and adapt quickly to unit routines

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and evidence-based de-escalation techniques
• Skilled in medication administration and monitoring for psychotropic agents
• Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and support staff
• Good time management, triage, and prioritization in a fast-paced setting
