Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based nursing care to patients in the Neuro Stepdown (SDU) unit
• Continuously assess and monitor patient condition using clinical judgment and telemetry as appropriate
• Document patient status, interventions, and responses clearly and accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to create and follow individualized care plans
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns when needed
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and discharge instructions in a compassionate manner
• Maintain unit standards for infection control, safety, and compliance with hospital policies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN license as required
• Clinical experience or strong interest in Neuro Stepdown/SDU care
• Comfort and competence with 12+ hour shift work and fast-paced unit environments
• Strong assessment skills and ability to prioritize care for multiple patients
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or willingness to obtain if required by facility)

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro-focused patient assessment and monitoring
• Telemetry interpretation and ongoing hemodynamic observation
• Medication administration and IV therapy competence
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
