Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients in the Neuro Stepdown (SDU) unit
• Assess and monitor neuro status, recognizing and escalating changes in condition promptly
• Administer medications, IV therapies and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans
• Document assessments and interventions clearly and timely in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans and discharge instructions with patience and clarity
• Contribute to a culture of safety by following policies, participating in unit huddles and reporting concerns

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license for Louisiana
• Experience caring for neurological or stepdown patients preferred
• BLS required; ACLS and specialty neuro certifications preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfortable working 12.5-hour clinical shifts and collaborating in a fast-paced unit
• Strong communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills
• Ability to pass required background checks and hospital credentialing

Education

• Active RN licensure in Louisiana (required)
• ADN or BSN (BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in neuro assessments (GCS, pupil checks, motor/sensory exams)
• Proficient with IV therapy, infusion pumps and common critical care equipment
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to prioritize in acute situations
• Accurate electronic charting and documentation practices
• Patient- and family-centered communication with an emphasis on education and empathy
• Team-focused attitude and openness to feedback for continuous improvement
