Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for adults on the psychiatric unit
• Perform thorough mental health assessments and document findings clearly and timely
• Administer medications safely and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects
• Implement crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (psychiatrists, therapists, social workers) to develop and update care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and coping strategies
• Maintain accurate, timely charting and comply with facility policies and regulatory standards
• Participate in shift handoffs and communicate changes in patient status effectively

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible for Oklahoma licensure or compact RN as applicable)
• Prior experience in adult psychiatric nursing preferred; demonstrated comfort working on an APU
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required — ACLS or psychiatric certifications are a plus
• Comfort and competence with 12-hour night shift schedules
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and crisis-management skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of required facility orientation and psychiatric unit training

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in psychiatric assessment, suicide risk evaluation, and crisis intervention
• Experienced with medication administration and monitoring in behavioral health settings
• Skilled in de-escalation techniques and maintaining a therapeutic milieu
• Good documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and manage complex patient needs during night shifts
• Strong interpersonal skills for patient and family education, and interdisciplinary collaboration
