Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts including day and night coverage. Day options: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM. Night options: 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Weekend rotations occur (3-4 times in a 4-week schedule). Call coverage includes weekday and weekend 8-hour call shifts as scheduled. Typical assigned days include 12-hour day coverage Fri-Sun with minimal call.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to adult surgical patients in the operating room
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments and equipment for a variety of surgical specialties
• Assist surgical teams during trauma, orthopedic, vascular, neurosurgery, ENT, thoracic and general cases
• Rapidly triage and respond to emergent situations, prioritizing patient safety and team coordination
• Document patient care and perioperative events accurately using Cerner charting system
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to plan and deliver efficient surgical care
• Advocate for patients and families, delivering compassionate education and post-operative instructions
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (eligible to work in California)
• Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience (perioperative/acute care experience preferred)
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• Prior OR experience or perioperative orientation completed (12 orientation hours noted)
• Familiarity with trauma and high-acuity surgical cases

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted, BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative nursing skills and sterile technique
• Experience with trauma, orthopedics, vascular, neurosurgery, ENT, thoracic and general surgery cases
• Proficient with Cerner electronic health record/charting
• Excellent communication, critical thinking and teamwork in fast-paced OR settings
• Ability to function under pressure and respond quickly to emergent surgical needs
• Time management and prioritization during long 12-hour shifts
