Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality med/surg nursing care for adult and geriatric patients on a busy unit
• Safely initiate and manage insulin and heparin drips, maintaining medication safety and documentation
• Serve in the charge nurse role on night shifts, coordinating staff assignments and patient flow
• Perform wound vac dressing changes and manage High Flow Nasal Cannula and short-term BiPAP support when needed
• Respond quickly to cardiac events: interpret and manage dysrhythmias and participate in rapid response
• Document care accurately in EPIC and manage medication dispensing via Pyxis with SBAR communication
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, Pharmacy, PT, IV teams, Radiology and more) to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to similar units or alternate care locations as needed and respond to call assignments when scheduled

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of med/surg nursing experience; unit will accept first-time travelers
• EPIC experience required for charting and documentation
• BCLS (BLS) certification required; CPI preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred and required for night travelers in the charge role
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• Ability to work holidays, every-other-weekend rotation, and participate on inclement weather/storm teams
• Comfort caring for COVID patients when necessary

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise with EPIC charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Hands-on experience with insulin and heparin drips
• Skilled in IV therapy, peripheral line care, and phlebotomy
• Proficient in wound care including Wound Vac dressing changes
• Knowledgeable in cardiac monitoring: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Familiarity with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and short-term BiPAP support
• Strong infection control practices including isolation precautions and PPE
• Clear, effective communication using SBAR and teamwork in a fast-paced med/surg environment
