Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per Diem (days vary), 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (Evening shift)

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $20 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living
Monitor residents’ condition and report changes to nursing staff promptly
Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics
Support mealtime assistance and hydration needs while encouraging independence
Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and resident observations
Follow infection prevention protocols and help keep the environment safe and clean
Work collaboratively with the care team to deliver person-centered routines and activities

Qualifications

Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification in good standing
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and required health screenings
Comfortable assisting with transfers, bathing, feeding, and bedside care
Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
Reliable, punctual, and able to work evening per-diem shifts

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of resident-centered care for older adults
Basic infection control and safety procedures
Hands-on skills with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
Ability to observe and report changes in condition clearly
Teamwork, time management, and respectful communication with residents and families
Familiarity with electronic charting or willingness to learn
