Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, and color-flow Doppler echocardiograms to provide high-quality diagnostic information
• Carry out transesophageal echocardiography and both exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography when ordered
• Administer and interpret EKGs, prepare and monitor Holter devices, and assist with cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors, and related computer analysis tools
• Ensure correct scheduling, processing, and charging of studies within hospital information systems
• Apply infection control practices and aseptic technique to maintain patient and equipment safety
• Provide clinical preceptorship and guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric echocardiography, and communicate findings to the care team

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential required
• Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfortable working variable evening schedules and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic 2-D imaging, M-Mode, and color-flow Doppler
• Experienced with transesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic)
• Skilled in EKG acquisition/analysis, Holter monitoring setup and interpretation, and cardiac stress testing
• Familiar with hospital information and scheduling systems and correct charging procedures
• Knowledgeable in infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection
• Able to provide clinical teaching and preceptorship to students
• Comfortable using computer analysis tools for cardiac diagnostics
