Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform scrub and circulator duties in the CVOR, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety
• Support the surgical team during complex cardiovascular procedures such as CABG, valve repairs/replacements, LVAD placement, and transplant cases
• Operate and troubleshoot OR equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic lights, and Steris systems
• Administer blood and blood products per protocol and monitor cardiac parameters continuously
• Document patient care thoroughly in Epic and communicate handoffs clearly to interdisciplinary team members
• Respond professionally to cardiac emergencies and on-call situations as required
• Float between units and facilities when needed, providing adaptable, high-quality care across settings

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR scrub/circulator experience (travel experience required)
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in accordance with state requirements (ability to obtain necessary state licensure)
• Current BLS certification (preferred)
• Proven experience with Epic charting system (required)
• Demonstrated competency with cardiac surgical procedures and devices (e.g., LVAD, IABP)
• Ability to float between units and respond to on-call cardiac emergencies
• Access to a reliable vehicle for the assignment

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub and circulator techniques specific to cardiovascular surgery
• Cardiac monitoring and interpretation during operative care
• Experience with Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), mitral valve procedures, MAZE, and transplant cases
• Familiarity with Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD) and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
• Skill with specimen handling/labeling and Universal Protocol (time out) procedures
• Proficiency with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Steris equipment
• Administration of blood and blood products per policy
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and teamwork in acute, high-acuity settings
