Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and airway management
• Perform ventilator management and monitor changes in patient status, adjusting therapy as needed
• Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases and perform blood gas procedures as a certified technologist
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans
• Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and assist with resuscitation efforts when needed
• Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, equipment use, and discharge planning
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and ensure infection control standards are followed

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification with ability to verify licensure/certificates
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required
• Blood Gas Technologist Certificate required
• Completion of facility-required competencies such as Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam
• Current immunizations and screenings as listed by the facility: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, TB test/PPD or chest x-ray, Varicella, Tdap
• Successful completion of fit testing and a minimum 10-panel drug screen
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with ventilator management and noninvasive ventilation
• Skilled in arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
• Knowledge of pulmonary diagnostics and respiratory therapy protocols
• Ability to perform emergency respiratory interventions and airway management
• Familiarity with EMR documentation and clinical charting
• Strong patient education and family communication skills
• Equipment maintenance and infection prevention practices
