Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert respiratory care to neonates in the NICU, including advanced airway management
- Perform neonatal intubation and assist with neonatal resuscitation efforts when needed
- Manage ventilators and respiratory support devices with careful monitoring and adjustment
- Collaborate closely with neonatologists, nurses, and the multidisciplinary NICU team to optimize patient outcomes
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of respiratory assessments, interventions, and equipment use
- Complete required competency exams, specialty checklists, and skills validations
- Ensure infection control practices and equipment readiness to keep the smallest patients safe
- Participate in shift handoffs and communicate changes in patient status clearly and professionally
Qualifications
- Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license (state licensure required)
- Demonstrated proficiency in neonatal intubation (required)
- NICU respiratory care experience preferred
- Certifications: BLS, PALS, ACLS, NRP, and DCI/BVP (listed in job requirements)
- Successful completion of license/certificate verification and required competency exams
- Ability to pass health screenings and immunization requirements (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, TB testing, Hep B, influenza, Varicella, Tdap)
- Clear drug screen (minimum 10-panel) and fit test completion
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of neonatal respiratory anatomy, physiology, and resuscitation principles
- Skilled in ventilator management and troubleshooting for neonates
- Ability to perform neonatal intubation and advanced airway procedures with confidence
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills in high-acuity settings
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration in the NICU
- Familiarity with infection control, neonatal monitoring, and bedside equipment maintenance
