Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in an inpatient acute care setting
• Provide professional consultations and collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other team members to coordinate patient care and safe discharge planning
• Perform instrumental and clinical swallowing evaluations (including FEES) and implement treatment plans to improve function and safety
• Document assessments, treatment plans, progress, and outcomes accurately and timely in the medical record
• Operate and utilize clinical tools and equipment such as augmentative communication devices, vital stim, endoscope, wall suction, pulse oximeter, and other relevant devices

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
• Current ASHA certification (required)
• Current BLS/HCP CPR certification (required)
• Completion of a FEES course — or willingness to complete FEES training within six (6) months of hire
• Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of SLP experience in an acute care setting
• Preferred: Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP training
• Strong ability to evaluate and treat adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive disorders

Education

• Advanced degree in Speech-Language Pathology (e.g., Master's) preferred or equivalent clinical training

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in speech-language pathology and adult swallowing assessment and treatment
• Skilled in speech, language, and cognitive evaluation and intervention
• Experience with Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) and related instrumentation
• Ability to perform clinical consultations and work within an interdisciplinary team
• Comfortable with documentation, charting, and using clinical equipment common to acute care
