Roles & Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care for patients in the step-down unit, monitoring and responding to clinical changes
Assess patient condition, implement care plans, and document interventions clearly and promptly
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
Collaborate with physicians, therapists and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and discharge plans
Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

Current RN license in Louisiana or compact RN license eligible for practice in LA
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or required depending on unit policy
Experience working in a step-down, progressive care or telemetry environment preferred
Strong assessment, clinical judgment and interpersonal skills
Ability to work 12.5-hour clinical shifts and collaborate effectively with the care team

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and intermediate acuity nursing care
Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
Effective communication with patients, families and interdisciplinary teams
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs in a fast-paced setting
