Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the internal risk management program to protect patients and the organization
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations by investigating and reporting adverse events per policy and statute
• Serve as Patient Safety Officer: lead organization-wide patient safety initiatives and process improvements to reduce medical errors
• Direct and participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
• Coordinate disclosure and follow-up with patients, families, and the care team after incidents
• Facilitate Patient Safety Rounds and provide risk management education to staff, management, and physicians
• Conduct chart audits, clinical reviews, and support accreditation and regulatory readiness (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF)
• Work closely with Medical Directors, CMO, and corporate counsel on peer review and quality-of-care issues
• Track trends, maintain regulatory knowledge, and recommend system-based changes to improve safety
• Provide mentorship and serve as a resource to the Quality Management team; perform cross-coverage as needed

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska required
• Direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before the start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license
• CPHRM certification required within two (2) years
• Clinical competency assessment required within 3 months and every 3 years thereafter
• Minimum of 3 years' experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality and regulatory requirements
• Demonstrated leadership in facilitating and leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively across disciplines

Education

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska

Knowledge & Skills

• Risk management and patient safety program implementation
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Adverse incident investigation and regulatory reporting
• Regulatory knowledge: DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF and applicable AK statutes
• Accreditation support, chart audits, and clinical reviews
• Ability to educate staff and physicians; strong communication and mentoring skills
• Experience working with Medical Directors, CMOs, and legal/corporate counsel
• Planning and coordinating process changes and data-supported quality improvement
