Roles & Responsibilities

Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring safety and comfort
Administer medications and pain management interventions per orders and protocols
Perform thorough post-anesthesia assessments and document patient status clearly in the chart
Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgery, and nursing teams to coordinate smooth handoffs
Educate patients and families about post-operative care and discharge instructions
Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license — Louisiana licensure expected for practice in this facility
Experience or background in PACU/Post-Anesthesia Care preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and advanced certifications encouraged
Comfort with post-operative monitoring, IV therapy, and airway assessment
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative environment

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Post-anesthesia monitoring and recovery protocols
Airway management basics and recognizing early signs of respiratory compromise
IV medication administration and titration
Pain assessment and multimodal pain management strategies
Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health record workflows
Team collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff
