Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for Neuro Stepdown (SDU) patients, monitoring neurological status and responding to changes promptly
• Perform frequent assessments, interpret telemetry and neurologic findings, and escalate concerns to the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications, titrate drips per protocol, and manage complex patient care safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists and support staff to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans and discharge instructions with compassion and clarity
• Document care thoroughly and in a timely manner to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Serve as an advocate for patients, promoting safety, dignity and best clinical outcomes

Qualifications

• Current RN license in-state (or compact RN where applicable); active licensure required prior to start
• Minimum recent clinical experience in Neuro Stepdown, SDU, progressive care, or similar telemetry/stepdown environment (preferred)
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS and/or NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfortable with telemetry monitoring, neuro assessments, and managing higher-acuity patients
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team setting

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in neuro assessment and monitoring (pupil checks, NIHSS familiarity)
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Medication administration, IV infusion management and titration of vasoactive/neuro medications
• Ability to prioritize and multitask during high-acuity situations
• Team collaboration, clear documentation skills, and patient/family education
