Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using fetal monitoring and clinical assessment
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Respond quickly and effectively to obstetric and neonatal emergencies
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, pain management, delivery options, and postpartum care
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the patient record
• Support immediate postpartum care including breastfeeding initiation and patient teaching

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) — current, active license (Louisiana or eligibility to obtain Louisiana RN licensure)
• Experience or interest in Labor & Delivery nursing (previous L&D experience preferred)
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and/or ACLS preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, fetal monitoring competency, and the ability to prioritize in fast-paced situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; professional, patient-centered approach

Education

• Registered Nurse credential (RN) — completion of an accredited nursing program (diploma/ASN/BSN) is expected

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in electronic charting and accurate clinical documentation
• Proficient with fetal monitoring and maternal/fetal assessment
• IV therapy, medication administration, and peri-delivery nursing care
• Ability to anticipate needs during labor and coordinate care across teams
• Calm, decisive clinical judgment during high-acuity situations
