Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret findings, and communicate changes promptly
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology, and the perinatal team to support safe deliveries
• Administer medications and interventions per protocols and document care accurately
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, pain management options, and postpartum care
• Participate in emergency response and stabilization for obstetric complications when needed
• Contribute to a positive unit culture by mentoring colleagues and supporting quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; specialty certifications such as NRP or ACLS encouraged
• Previous Labor and Delivery clinical experience preferred
• Strong assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills in obstetric care
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient- and family-centered approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of maternal-fetal monitoring and interpretation of fetal heart tracings
• Skilled in intrapartum nursing assessment and documentation
• Ability to respond quickly in high-acuity obstetric situations
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation and hospital policies
• Patient education skills for labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care
