Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using appropriate assessment tools and interventions
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe deliveries
• Educate and support patients and families on labor progress, pain management options, and postpartum care
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes clearly and promptly in the medical record
• Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns to the care team

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Louisiana) — compact licensure status accepted where applicable
• Minimum recent clinical experience in Labor & Delivery preferred
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; NRP, FHR/fetal monitoring certification highly desirable
• Strong clinical assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills in obstetric settings
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with patients, families, and clinicians

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in fetal monitoring interpretation and maternal/fetal assessment
• Skilled in labor support techniques and intrapartum nursing care
• Knowledgeable in postpartum care, newborn transition, and immediate neonatal assessment
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity obstetric environments
• Competent documentation and electronic medical record usage
