Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one labor support and management for high-risk and routine deliveries, ensuring safe outcomes for birthing people and neonates
• Perform and document sterile vaginal exams (SVE) as a hardstop requirement
• Continuously monitor fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring and respond to abnormal tracings
• Assist and circulate for cesarean sections and support vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum when required
• Administer and titrate critical medications and infusions such as magnesium sulfate, pitocin (oxytocin), terbutaline and insulin drips safely
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and newborn stabilization in the delivery room, including APGAR assessment and cord sampling
• Provide comprehensive postpartum couplet care, breastfeeding/lactation support, wound and incision care, and discharge teaching
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (CRNAs, surgical techs, respiratory, pharmacy, rapid response) and document care in EPIC

Qualifications

• Active RN (Registered Nurse) — eligible to practice in Washington (state licensure required)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant Labor & Delivery experience (per AWHONN standards); first-timers accepted for consideration
• Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Monitoring — all certs are hardstop requirements
• Must be able to perform Sterile Vaginal Exam (SVE) — hardstop
• Experience with fetal monitoring, high-risk perinatal care, and neonatal resuscitation
• Comfortable titrating IV therapies and administering blood/blood products
• Willingness to float to Postpartum and work required weekends

Education

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required; specialty experience in Labor & Delivery expected
• Completion of relevant certification courses (BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN/Relias fetal monitoring)

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor & Delivery management and triage skills
• External and internal fetal monitoring (EFM/IFM) and IUPC placement/calibration
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn stabilization skills
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs and administration of blood products
• Familiarity with EPIC charting
• Ability to assist/circulate in C-sections and manage hemorrhage/shock
• Comfort with pain management modalities including epidural and general anesthesia contexts
• Strong communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient education skills
