Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period
• Continuously assess maternal and fetal status and intervene or escalate concerns as appropriate
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary care team to execute safe delivery plans
• Educate and support birthing people and families through labor, birth, and early postpartum care
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly in the patient record
• Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies and participate in drills to maintain readiness

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact license where applicable
• Clinical experience in Labor and Delivery preferred
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and ACLS highly recommended or preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage emergent situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills when coordinating care with families and clinical teams
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to the unit’s scheduling needs

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in maternal and fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Knowledge of labor management, induction, augmentation, and operative delivery support
• Skilled in postpartum care including hemorrhage prevention and newborn transition support
• Competence in patient education, discharge planning, and family-centered care
• Strong documentation and electronic health record skills
• Calm, decisive approach to high-acuity and emergent situations
