Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring mothers and newborns throughout the peripartum period
• Continuously monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret fetal heart tracings, and escalate concerns promptly
• Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries and participate in emergency responses when needed
• Collaborate closely with OB/GYNs, neonatology, anesthesia and the interdisciplinary care team to optimize outcomes
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, newborn care and postpartum recovery with clarity and empathy
• Document assessments, interventions and patient education accurately and timely in the medical record
• Participate in unit quality improvement and safety initiatives to advance patient care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana (must be able to practice in LA)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Previous Labor & Delivery nursing experience preferred (new grads with strong L&D clinical exposure are encouraged to apply)
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and communication skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and respond calmly in urgent situations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring and strip interpretation expertise
• Maternal and newborn assessment skills across labor, delivery and postpartum phases
• Proficiency with electronic charting/EMR systems and accurate documentation
• Skilled in medication administration, IV management and emergency obstetric interventions
• Excellent teamwork, communication and patient education skills
