Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee all clinical medical physics tasks to ensure safe, accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation
• Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures that ensure safe operation of accelerators and brachytherapy equipment
• Perform daily output and quality assessment checks and maintain equipment calibration
• Lead acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibrations for new and repaired clinical equipment
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists and technical staff to prepare and optimize treatment plans
• Support dosimetry and therapists by overseeing technical aspects of their activities and assisting with treatment planning (External Beam, SRS, Brachytherapy, HDR)
• Evaluate and implement updates to treatment planning, radiation calculation, measurement, and record & verify software
• Monitor clinical quality indicators and help develop and maintain regulatory compliance

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related field required; Doctorate preferred
• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Medical Physicists (ABMP) — required
• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) — required
• Eligible to be an Authorized Medical Physicist with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (highly preferred)
• Certification by ABR or equivalent in therapeutic medical physics required within 3 years of hire (as noted)
• 3–5 years clinical experience in a radiation therapy setting preferred

Education

• Master of Science in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field (required)
• Doctorate in Medical Physics or Physics (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Radiation therapy physics and clinical quality assurance (QA)
• Treatment planning and dosimetry for External Beam, SRS, and Brachytherapy
• Operation, calibration, acceptance testing and commissioning of linear accelerators and brachytherapy equipment
• Experience with record and verify systems and radiation calculation/measurement software
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and state/federal requirements
• Hands-on experience with HDR treatments and stereotactic radiosurgery
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with physicians and technical staff
