Medical Laboratory Technologist - Weekender
Location: Mauston, WI
Start Date: 06-05-2026
End Date: 09-04-2026
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Friday-Sunday, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM NOC (12-hour night shifts)
Hours per Week: 32
Candidate Pay Rate: $46 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing across Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, Blood Bank, Blood Gas/Point of Care and Coagulation with accuracy and care
- Maintain and document analyzer maintenance, preventive maintenance, calibrations, and linearity checks to ensure reliable results
- Run and review quality control and proficiency testing, investigating and correcting out-of-range results
- Process specimens, perform manual differentials and morphological examinations, and assist with bone marrow and body fluid collections as needed
- Communicate critical test results promptly to physicians and nursing staff per established protocols
- Assist with analyzer validations, training peers on new instruments/tests, and updating section policies and procedures
- Provide in-service training and competency assessments to laboratory staff and students, fostering a culture of continuous learning
- Document instrument checks, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions clearly and professionally
Qualifications
- ASCP certification (or equivalent) required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) two-year degree required; Medical Technologist (MT) four-year degree preferred or two-year with MT AAB certification recognized
- 1+ years of related laboratory experience preferred
- Demonstrated skill in specimen processing, phlebotomy, quality control, and analyzer maintenance
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow and update procedures
- Excellent communication skills for reporting critical results and training coworkers
Education
- Two-year Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree required
- Four-year Medical Technologist (MT) degree preferred, or two-year degree with MT AAB Certification recognized
Knowledge & Skills
- Hematology: manual differentials, morphology review
- Chemistry: calibration, linearity, troubleshooting analyzers
- Microbiology and Serology testing and reporting
- Blood Bank: antibody identification and transfusion-related testing
- Blood Gas and Point of Care testing
- Phlebotomy and specimen processing best practices
- Quality control, proficiency testing, and data review
- Analyzer validation, preventive maintenance, and documentation
- Training and education delivery to staff and students
- Troubleshooting instrument and clinical problems with sound corrective actions
