Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate venipuncture and phlebotomy collections using vacutainer and syringe methods
• Process specimens: centrifuge, aliquot, label, and prepare for transport to reference labs
• Protect specimen integrity including chilled, warmed, light-protected, and microbiological handling
• Deliver specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner and document times appropriately
• Provide post-collection patient care and monitor pediatric finger and heel stick sites
• Document collection and patient data in Epic and other data entry systems with attention to accuracy
• Follow aseptic technique, proper disposal, and correct specimen storage procedures
• Float between units such as ICU and ER to support variable patient populations from pediatrics to geriatrics

Qualifications

• CPT I certification in hand (required)
• Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy or relevant experience (required)
• Trauma Level I experience (required)
• Travel experience (required for this opening)
• BLS certification preferred
• Ability to float between units including ICU and ER; comfortable with varied patient ages
• No pending license accepted; must have required credentials at time of submission
• Willingness to work night 4x10 schedule and occasional holiday coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Phlebotomy and venipuncture expertise (vacutainer and syringe methods)
• Specimen processing: centrifuge, aliquot, proper labeling and storage
• Handling special specimens: chilled, warmed, protected from light, and microbiological samples
• Post-venipuncture care and pediatric finger and heel stick techniques
• Aseptic technique, proper disposal, and infection control practices
• Accurate data entry and charting experience (Epic charting experience noted)
• Timely specimen transport and familiarity with outpatient, clinic, and inpatient lab workflows
